GENTRY -- Gentry Fire Department, and other neighboring departments providing mutual aid, responded to a house fire at 406 S. Collins Ave., Gentry, on Thursday, shortly after 3 p.m.

The fire, according to Vester Cripps, Gentry's fire chief, started in the kitchen and was quickly extinguished.

"It was an electrical fire, starting in a light fixture in the kitchen," Cripps said.

Cripps reported fire damage in the kitchen and smoke damage throughout the home.

According to police, the home's resident said he had been cooking and answered the phone. When he returned to the kitchen, it was engulfed in flames. Police reported that the resident was outside the home when they arrived, and they assisted him in getting a safe distance from the home.

Gary Lookadoo, who rents the home, was taken to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation, according to Cripps. No other injuries were reported.

It is unknown if Lookadoo or the home's owner had insurance.
