Arrests made in egg vandalism case

DECATUR -- Two suspects were arrested in connection with the early morning vandalism of several buildings in Decatur Jan. 18.

Jayden Freelen, 18, of Rudy, and a 17 year old juvenile from Decatur were arrested in connection with this case.

According to Decatur Police Chief Terry Luker, Freelen and his accomplice threw eggs at several locations in Decatur, including 12 cars at the Garden Walk Apartments, Handy Mart, Northside Elementary and sign, agriculture building at Decatur High School, TNT car wash, and the Simmons Foods office. A car wash equipment door and back of a dollar changer machine were pried open. No access was gained to the change machine.

Damage was estimated to be around $9,000.

Freelen was arrested Feb. 1 and is currently held in the Benton County Detention Center. The juvenile was arrested Jan. 26 and taken to the Benton County Juvenile Court and later released to the custody of parents.

Both are being charged with two counts of breaking and entering (Class D felony), criminal mischief (Class C felony), and 16 counts of criminal mischief in the second degree ( Class B misdemeanors).

A court date was not yet set at press time.
