Maysville EH Club News

Maysville EH Club members met at the Maysville Community Center for the January meeting. The noon meal was hosted by Nikki Crawley with the assistance of Gwen Singleton.

The president called the meeting to order with 11 members in attendance. Melinda Crawley led the group singing "Sentimental Journey" then gave a short reading entitled "Fiery Sermon."

The lesson was given by Gwen Singleton on Sharing your family legacy. Treasures from the past open the door to conversations and stories that link us to each other and our histories. A few ideas for using and sharing your legacy are: research your family roots and share the information with other family members; frame a picture of your parents and grandparents and display them in your home; make a family scrapbook (you might do this alone or with the assistance of members of your family); display tools or objects that were owned by your ancestors in a shadow box; hang up quilts or needlework done by your ancestors ; create a website to share with other family members; collect stories and pictures and make them into a book that can be copied for family members. Several people shared some great tips on things they did to share their legacy.

The secretary read the minutes and gave the financial report. Each member answered roll call by telling where she was born.

Items of business included the spring fundraiser which will be a spaghetti dinner, selling raffle tickets for a gas grill, and our community yard sale sometime in May. Anyone wishing to rent a booth should contact Gwen Singleton. Booths are $10.

Our president talked about the duties of a hostess.

Announcements for upcoming county events were: leader lessons will be Feb. 27 for the March and April lessons; cultural art sessions are the third Thursday of each month; this month they will be making nursing covers to be given to WIC; spring council will be May 1.

If anyone would like a T-shirt with the new county logo on it, you may buy a shirt of your choice and take it to the extension office and they will print it for $5. Melinda was informed the county extension has a few copies of the book, "It's So Easy To Preserve," if anyone is interested in buying one.
