Yarbrough chosen for Senate Youth Program

GRAVETTE -- Ashton Yarbrough, a senior at Gravette High School, has been chosen as a delegate to the United States Senate Youth Program. She will travel to Washington, D.C., to attend the 53rd annual Washington Week held March 7-14.

Yarbrough and Katherine Sanders of Cave Springs were chosen from hundreds of applicants from throughout Arkansas. High school principals in the state helped select the delegates, who must rank academically in the top 1 percent of their state and have demonstrated a commitment to public service.

They will join 102 other delegates in meetings with senators, congressional staff members, the president, a Supreme Court justice, cabinet members and a foreign ambassador. They will also tour many of the monuments and museums in the nation's capitol.

Yarbrough serves as the vice president of the student council and is a member of the GHS cheer squad. She is the current Girls State governor, a 4-H ambassador, an Arkansas 4-H Teen Star and a Girls Nation delegate. She was chosen Miss Arkansas Outstanding Teen in 2014.
