GRAVETTE -- Highway 59 rivals, Gentry and Gravette, faced off in the final game of conference play in Lion Field House on Friday with the Gentry girls taking the first game, 46-40, and the Gravette boys winning the second, 68-65.

Both games were nail-biters throughout, with but few points between the teams and no clear-cut winner apparent until the end.

In the girls' game, Gentry started slow but pulled ahead in the end and drew Gravette fouls to widen the gap and take the win.

Mallory Morris led the Lady Pioneers in scoring with 14 points. Haley Borgeteien-James was just behind her with 11. Sydney Hicks led the Lady Lions, with 15. Amanda Pinter had 11.

On the boys' side, Gravette grabbed an early lead in the opening quarter, but Gentry closed the gap and the game remained close to the finish. Game stats were not yet available to the Eagle Observer at press time.

Both schools go on to district play at Shiloh Christian in Springdale this week. Gravette girls were scheduled to play Lincoln at 4 p.m. today. The Gentry and Gravette boys were to face off again at 8:30 p.m. today.

On Thursday, the Gentry girls were scheduled to play the winner of the Lincoln-Gravette game at 7 p.m. The boys' winner of the Gentry-Gravette matchup will play Prairie Grove on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
