Huntsville shoots their way past Gentry girls

SPRINGDALE -- Gentry (10-13), the No. 4 seed, attacked Huntsville early in the 4A-1 Conference District Tournament semifinals on Friday at Shiloh Christian's Champions Gymnasium, with Mallory Morris accounting for the Lady Pioneers' first nine points and ending the game with a team-high 12.

Her 3-pointer with just over three minutes left in the first quarter gave Gentry its last lead of the game, at 9-8, before Huntsville started raining in 3-pointers.

Shelbi McCartney's pull-up shot from in the lane gave Huntsville a 22-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Eagles turned up the defensive pressure in the second quarter and held Gentry to just one field goal. Although Huntsville's shooting cooled in the quarter, the Lady Eagles stretched their lead to 35-15 at halftime.

Chandler Sone launched a perfect 3-point shot that swished through the net midway through the fourth quarter. It was one of eight 3-pointers Huntsville knocked down in its 64-30 blowout win over Gentry.

Sone's 3-pointer with 3 minutes, 21 seconds left in the game invoked the 30-point mercy rule, but the game was over long before that as the Lady Eagles (23-5) turned a close game into a rout by knocking down five straight 3-pointers at one point.

Gentry will be the No. 4 seed at this week's 4A-North Regional Tournament in Pottsville.
