Safe room open house planned

GRAVETTE -- The Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Arkansas is pleased to announce an open house for the new safe room and community room at North Arkansas Senior Housing of Gravette from 12 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, at 700 Irving Street, S.W.

"We would like to take this opportunity to invite the public to come celebrate with us as we continue to strive to provide our residents and the community with the tools they need to sustain independent and safe living accommodations," a release stated.

According to the release, "The recently-built community building houses an "emergency shelter safe room" which offers shelter when hazardous weather threatens. The room is constructed to house up to 90 people and provide protection to residents of the property, Billy V. Hall Senior Complex, Garden Walk of Gravette, visitors to the properties, staff and residents living within a 5-minute arrival."

"Tornadoes and high winds can happen at any time and there is no better alternative to dealing with tornadic activity than construction of a safe room," the release states. "The safe room provides protection from winds up to 250 miles per hour. Included in the building is a community room which offers North Arkansas Senior Housing residents a lovely place to host family gatherings, game and movie events, and social dinners."

The Community Building is located behind the North Arkansas Senior Housing complex and has a driveway with directional signs to the building.
