Lady Pioneers pick up tournament wins

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers came back from an early third quarter deficit to take the lead and keep it for a 48-38 victory over Mongo Valley on Saturday at the tournament in Siloam Springs.

The Lady Pioneers took the lead in the first quarter and held it until just before the end of the second period, but the Gentry girls battled back in the third, entering the final quarter, up 35-30. The girls doubled their lead by the final buzzer.

Haley Borgeteien-James led the Lady Pioneers with 13 points in the game. Rachel Lawrence and Mallory Morris each had seven.

Against Western Grove on Friday, the Lady Pioneers came home with a 52-45 victory. Borgeteien-James had 23 points in the game. Lawrence had 11 and Morris seven. Amber Ellis, Bailey Bills and Lauren Little made up the difference. Lawrence and Morris each had seven rebounds.

The game was tied at the half at 22 points each, but Gentry retook the lead in the third quarter and sealed their win in the fourth.

The Gentry girls fell to Rogers on Dec. 30, 51-25. Morris picked up 10 points in the game and had three rebounds. Borgeteien-James had nine points and a rebound. Lauren Little and Lawrence each had three points and three rebounds in the game.
