BENTONVILLE -- The Division 1 courtroom at the Benton County Court House was a busy place Jan. 1 as newly elected mayors from all over the county gathered to take their oaths of office. Among these officials was Decatur Mayor Bob Tharp.
Tharp defeated incumbent Mayor Charles Linam in a close race Nov. 4.
The oath was administered by Judge Doug Schrantz, Division 6 of the 19th Judicial Circuit West, in the Division 1 courtroom at the Benton County court house.
Among the visitors assembled in the gallery were Tharp's wife Joy and other family members.
Tharp will begin his duties as mayor of Decatur Jan. 5 when he moves into his new office at City Hall.
"I am proud to be a part of the town," Tharp said. "I look forward to the next four years of service to this community as its mayor."
