Gentry girls stumble in Huntsville

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers played hard in the final quater of their game at Huntsville on Jan. 6 but could not make up the deficit of the first three quarters, losing 47-34.

Gentry grabbed the lead briefly in the first quarter when Haley Borgeteien-James shot for two and Rachel Lawrence put in a three-pointer, putting Gentry on top, 5-4, but Huntsville took back the lead with a three-point shot and held that lead for the remainder of the game.

Lawrence and Borgeteien-James sank numerous two- and three-point shots in the final quarter in an attempt to close the gap on Huntsville's 20-point lead (38-18), but it wasn't enough even though the Gentry girls added 16 points to Huntsville's 9.

Lawrence had 20 points in the game, eight of those in the final quarter. Borgeteien-James was credited with 12. Borgeteien-James had seven rebounds, Lawrence six. Mallory Morris and Brieann Ward had two apiece, and Lauren Little had one.
