DECATUR -- It was a long and hard road for the Decatur Lady Bulldogs who had failed to post a single victory thus far this season. But that all changed Jan. 5 when the Lady Dogs traveled to Hartford to take on the Hustlers.

Early in the game, Hartford lost its number one player to a rolled ankle. The Lady Bulldogs took advantage of the situation. Even though both teams had trouble hitting the bucket, the end result was a one-point Lady Dogs' advantage, 18 to 17.

"The girls are getting a little better," said Bill Niven, girls' head coach. "But it is the same problem that has plagued us all season, the ability to put points on the board."

The Lady Dogs returned to action Jan. 9 and took on the Hackett Hornets at home. The Lady Dogs put the first points on the board and held the Hornets scoreless for the first five minutes of the opening quarter. Hackett, however, began a slow come back and, by the end of the first quarter, tied things up at 5 points each.

The Lady Bulldogs were at a huge disadvantage throughout the game with only six players available. It began showing in the second quarter as they fell behind. The Lady Dogs trailed by 7 points at the half, 19 to 9, and by 26 at the third buzzer, 41-15.

The game ended with Hackett up, 49 to 23.
