GENTRY -- Despite a gallant comeback attempt by the Lady Pioneers, it wasn't quite enough to defeat the visiting Lady Wolves from Lincoln on Friday night at Gentry High School.

The Gentry girls played the late game of the night due to coronation ceremonies earlier in the evening. But even though they came out wearing makeup and had their hair in curls from the earlier events, the Lady Pioneers played hard and played to win.

Down by three points at the half and eight at the third buzzer, the Gentry girls scored 22 points in the final quarter on shots by Haley Borgeteien-James, Rachel Lawrence and Lauren Little, as well as a 3-pointer by Mallory Morris. Borgeteien-James picked up a good number of her final points at the free-throw line.

Borgeteien-James was responsible for almost half of Gentry's points, with 26. She was nine for 12 on the court and eight for 11 at the free-throw line.

Lawrence, who earlier in the evening was crowned queen in Gentry's coronation ceremonies, scored 14 points. Morris added five points; Little, four; and Brieann Ward, three.

Gentry finished the game with 30 rebounds, 18 offensive and 12 defensive.

Prairie Grove 57

Gentry 46

The Lady Pioneers also fell to the Prairie Grove Lady Tigers on Jan. 13, 57 to 46.

Prairie Grove grabbed an eight-point lead in the first quarter, but Gentry had closed the gap to be down by only three at the half. But though the Lady Pioneers scored 16 points in the final round, the Lady Tigers stayed on top for the win.

Rachel Lawrence led the Lady Pioneers at the boards, with 18 points. Haley Borgeteien-James and Mallory Morris each had 13. Amber Ellis had two.

BOYS

Lincoln 65

Gentry 47

What began as a close game, with Gentry on top for a time and keeping pace with the visiting Lincoln Wolves, came apart in the second half, with the Lincoln boys sinking shot after shot against Gentry.

Though the game was an exciting game to watch, with good shooting on both sides and multiple turnovers, the Pioneers came up short, losing 65-47.

Game stats were not yet available to the Eagle Observer at press time. Nor were scores or stats from the Jan. 13 game against Prairie Grove.
