DECATUR -- With the beginning of summer at hand and the threat of temperatures reaching the century mark by mid-July, people are flocking to rivers, lakes and pools in an effort to beat the heat.

One place in the area that is seeing an influx in customers is the City Park pool in Decatur. The pool, constructed in the mid-'70s, has seen a rise in users according to Pool supervisor Bobby Shaw.

"We average around 40 people a day since we opened June 1," Shaw said.

Shaw has a staff of three lifeguards, two of whom are on duty each day. Ryan Shaffer, Cameron Shaffer and Levi Newman keep an eagle-eye watch over the patrons as they enjoy a cool dip in the pool.

The Decatur pool is open Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. and is closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Cost for admission is $2 per person, with a Pool Season Pass of $50 available for individuals. Pool parties are also available.
