GRAVETTE -- Gravette High School held the annual Career Day on May 21. This year's Career Day featured two keynote speakers in the Performing Arts Center in the morning. Students were then able to select four of the 13 speakers to hear and gain some insight into the world of work and other post-secondary options.

The two keynote speakers, who addressed the entire student body, were Terry Nannie, Senior Director II in Small Formats-Underserved Market Development for Walmart in the U.S., and Maxie Carpenter, current director of operations for the Samaritan Community Centers of Northwest Arkansas and adjunct professor in organizational management at John Brown University. The speakers have a combined experience of more than 57 years at all levels of business and retail with Walmart and other related industries.

The available group of speakers were from various businesses and industries, military branches and medical facilities. They included Kristi Chapman, recruiter and academic advisor from Crowder College; Cheryl Pickering, Northwest Arkansas Education Coop career tech coordinator; Staff Sergeant Dustin T. Gregory, U.S. Army recruiter; and Staff Sergeant J.W. McCord, regional recruiter for the U.S. Marines.

Speakers from Ozarks Community Hospital were Tracy Curlin, dietary coordinator; J.D. Eiman, physician assistant; Jessica Bolin, clinic manager and LPN; Tom Boettcher and Tammy Hayes, medical lab technicians.

Career Day is sponsored by the DECA (association of marketing students) career tech club and advisor Bob Johnson. GHS expressed thanks to all speakers, student ambassadors and career tech teachers for their participation.
