Police make juvenile arrests, solve string of crimes

GENTRY -- Police in Gentry have arrested numerous juveniles and solved multiple cases of criminal mischief and vandalism within the city.

According to police, they received seven or more reports in the months of February through June of various crimes ranging from spray-painting vulgar symbols on sidewalks, playground equipment, fences and vehicles to commercial burglaries at the park concession stand, the schools and Mid-America Cabinet factory. And the police have been busy interviewing juvenile suspects regarding the cases, leading to arrests in all the cases and a warrant being sought for another juvenile.

Eighteen juvenile arrests were made in connection with the crimes, according to police, though some of the arrests involved the same juveniles for multiple crimes. Adult arrests were also made in connection with two of the crimes. Police were still seeking an arrest warrant for yet another juvenile and one juvenile was too young to be charged, being 10 years of age or younger.

Police are hoping the arrests will stop the string of vandalism which has plagued the city for several months and that convictions, penalties and fines will discourage others from such activity.
