Man arrested in shoplifting case

GENTRY -- Police arrested a Gentry man in connection with shoplifting at Smith Drug in Gentry on June 26.

According to police reports, Sean Couch, 36, was arrested following a report that he allegedly took a bottle of tea tree oil from its package and placed it into his pocket at the drug store. When confronted by police, he allegedly tried to return the item to the shelf without police seeing him remove it from his pocket.

According to reports, Couch became "loud and belligerent" toward officers and resisted when taken outside and placed in a patrol car. Police indicated in the report their belief that Couch was under the influence of narcotic drugs during the time of the incident.

Police reports also state that Couch had just been released from the Delaware County (Okla.) Jail earlier in the day and had been charged there with public intoxication for being under the influence of narcotic drugs.

The Gentry Police Department incident report lists possible charges as attempted misdemeanor shoplifting and public intoxication.

Couch was transported to the Benton County Jail and later released.

Police also report that additional arrests are being made and more cases are being solved in connection with vandalism in the community.
