Council votes to purchase new LIFEPAK unit

GRAVETTE -- In a short meeting last Thursday night, the Gravette City Council voted to buy a refurbished LIFEPAK 12 unit for the fire department. The LIFEPAK, to be purchased from eMed Healthcare in Little Rock at a cost of $8,244.18, will replace one that has quit working.

The old unit is 13 years old and, after researching the cost of repairing it, mayor Kurt Maddox recommended purchase of a refurbished unit instead.

In other business, council members approved a budget adjustment of $8,159.98 for Gravette Day expenses, including the Throw Down at Old Town, Kindley Park activities and the Gravette Day pageant.

Consideration of ordinances regarding the city clerk-city treasurer's retirement and the mayor's retirement, both requirements for a city of the first class, were tabled. City attorney David Bailey said he wanted to study them further before the vote for passage was taken.

Mayor Maddox announced at the end of the meeting that the school board had accepted the city's offer on the two pieces of property for which it had submitted bids. He said the possibility of leasing the bus barn property back to the school would be discussed. Now the focus will be on acquiring the Holloway property, which is adjacent to the property just acquired in Hiwasse, he said.
