Gentry police make multiple arrests

GENTRY -- Police arrested Garriett Ward, 31, of Gentry, in the early hours of May 25, in connection with domestic battery in the second degree, a Class C felony.

According to the affidavit of probable cause in the case, Ward is alleged to have punched and head-butted his girlfriend in the face, causing "multiple fractures to her face," and then choked her around the neck while threatening to kill her.

Police also requested that Ward be issued a no-contact order with his girlfriend.

William Wright, 61, of Gentry, was arrested May 17 and later cited and released for public intoxication.

According to police reports, Wright was allegedly found lying on the floor of the laundromat on Gentry's Main Street with a cut near his eye and with the strong odor of mouthwash on his breath. An empty bottle of mouthwash was also found at the laundromat, according to reports.

After allegedly refusing medical treatment from emergency medical technicians and becoming combative toward them, Wright was transported to the Benton County Jail, where he was refused admission because of the cut.

Wright was then transported to Northwest Medical Center, where he was cited and released to the care of the facility.

Also arrested May 17 was Steven D. Gibson, 24, of Berryville, after police found his car in the ditch along Arkansas Highway 12 at WPA Road and could smell the odor of alcohol on Gibson's breath.

According to police reports, Gibson was not injured in the mishap, nor was there any damage to his vehicle. But Gibson's alleged bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech, admission to having consumed about six beers, and performance in field sobriety tests led to his arrest for driving while under the influence of alcohol. According to police reports, a breath test revealed a blood-alcohol content of .17, more than twice the legal limit of .08.

He was transported to the Benton County Jail.
