Soccer Team Benefits

The Lady Pioneers soccer team will host two car washes and a soccer camp to raise money to help cover the cost of state rings for the Lady Pioneers state championship soccer team. The car washes will be held June 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Gentry in front of the former Marvin's Foods store, and again on July 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the fire station in Gentry. The soccer camp will be held by the Lady Pioneers on Aug. 8 at the Pioneers Athletic Complex.

Vacation Bible School

Berean Ministries of Gravette will hold its vacation Bible school for children entering kindergarten through those entering the seventh grade from 9 a.m. until noon on June 8 through 12. Dick and Judy Triestram will be returning for their 16th year. The theme this year is "Jesus, Tell Us a Story." Every child who attends on Monday will receive a free T-shirt. The program includes magic tricks, games, crafts, snacks, music, Bible lessons, team competitions, balloon animals and more. For information or a ride, call Hope Duke at 479-787-5628.

Maysville Day

Cherokee Language Classes

Free Cherokee language classes will be offered at Talbot Library and Museum, beginning on June 18. Lawrence Panther, Stilwell High School language instructor, will teach the classes and be on hand at the museum during Old Settlers' Day, June 6, for anyone wishing to sign up. Seamless Summer Program

Gravette Public Schools, in cooperation with Sulphur Springs Events Inc., will be providing lunch free of charge for any child, 18 or younger, regardless of whether they attend school in the Gravette Public School District. Lunch will be served Monday through Friday starting June 1 and continuing through July 31 at the following locations: from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Gravette Upper Elementary School, 500 8th Ave., S.E., Gravette; and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the old school cafeteria and city hall, 512 S. Black Ave., Sulphur Springs. Students may come to either location during the serving times listed to receive a free meal. Anyone over 18 years of age may purchase a meal for $3.50 on site. Worker Needed at GSAC

The Gentry Senior Activity and Wellness Center is in need of a person, 55 or older, to work 22 hours a week. It consists of light custodial work and pays minimum wage. Contact Jackie at 479-736-0378 for more information.

Decatur Summer Reading

The Iva Jane Peek Public Library in Decatur is planning a summer reading program beginning in June which is open to children, 5 to 9, and is free. Program dates are June 8-9, 15-16 and 22-23 from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The library is located on the corner of N. Main St. and Roller Ave. Library hours are 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday and 3:30 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Gravette Summer Reading

The opening event in the Gravette Public Library's summer reading program will be held Thursday, June 4, beginning at 11 a.m. The theme for the five-week program is "Every Hero Has a Story" and the first session will feature "Disney Super Heroes -- Villians and Sidekicks." The sessions are free and open to all children, ages 4 to 12, in the area. Come by the library at 407 Charlotte Street, S.E., or call library manager Kim Schneider at 787-6955 to register.

Gentry Summer Reading

Gentry Public Library's 2015 summer reading program, "Every Hero Has A Story," will run from June 8 through July 30. Children, 6 and under with a current library membership, may begin registration for programs on Tuesdays from 10 to 11 a.m.; and children, 7 and above, may register for programs on Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m. Participants will receive a logbook to record titles of books read this summer. The library will also be offering a variety of programs each week. A calendar of events is available at the library and children are encouraged to attend as often as possible. The calendar includes community heroes from the Gentry Fire Department on the week of June 9 and 11, community heroes from the Arkansas State Police on the week of June 16 and 18, nature's heroes with Sam Doss on the week of June 23 and 25, Bible heroes on the week of June 30 and July 2, military heroes on the week of July 7 and 9, child heroes on the week of July 14 and 16, comic book heroes on July 21 and 23 and hero dress-up days on July 28 and 30. Everyone who participates in the programs will be invited to a final party at the close of the summer reading program.

Benefit Yard Sale

A benefit yard sale will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 5 through June 7, at the Goody Shack bakery on Highway 59 just north of the overpass in Gravette. Hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday. Proceeds will help Cassie Estep finance her trip to Canada as a People to People Ambassador and help Summer Rose and Landyn Perrine raise money to go to the Little Britches National Finals in Pueblo, Colo., this summer. Pancake Breakfast

A pancake breakfast fundraiser will be held from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at the Gravette Fire Station. Cost for the meal will be $5 a person, with children 8 and under eating free. The menu for the meal, which will be cooked and served by Gravette's full-time firefighters and volunteers, will be pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy, coffee, orange juice and milk. Proceeds will go to the volunteer firefighters, to help them purchase uniforms and to send flowers to firefighters or family members who may be hospitalized.

Old Settlers Day

Old Settlers Day in Colcord, Okla., will be held on Saturday, June 6. Saturday events begin at 7:30 a.m. with a fundraising breakfast at the senior citizens' center. Beginning at 9 a.m., the Talbot Library and Museum in Colcord will open its annual book and bake sale to raise funds. The event will feature award-winning Western author Dusty Richards and local live music. In addition to baked goods, hamburger and hot dog dinners will be available at the museum for $5. Drawings for prizes are also on the agenda. Other events for the day include the Colcord Old Settlers Day Parade at 11 a.m. with lineup at 10 a.m. Anyone wishing to be in the parade is simply asked to be there and ready to line up at 10. A dinner and live music in the Colcord City Park begins at noon. The annual Colcord Rodeo will kickoff at the rodeo grounds (in the Row area) with mutton bustin' at 7:30 on Friday and Saturday nights. A Miss Colcord Rodeo pageant is also being planned.

Freedom Fest Vendors

Vendors who would like to rent booth space at the 102nd Annual Gentry Freedom Fest may now sign up. Applications can be obtained at www.gentry chamber.com or by calling 479-736-2358 to have one sent via USPS mail. Applications are also available at Gentry City Hall and Gentry Chamber of Commerce. Food vendors will be inspected by the Arkansas Department of Health and all vendors will be subject to payment of Arkansas sales tax.

Little Miss and Mister Gentry

Parents of Gentry children, ages 3-5 on July 4, are invited to enter them in the 2015 Little Miss and Mister Gentry Pageant to be held on the stage in the Gentry City Park on the afternoon of July 4. Open Space Plan

The Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission is developing a Northwest Arkansas Regional Open Space Plan throughout 2015. This plan includes both Benton and Washington Counties. The purpose of the plan is to develop a coordinated, voluntary program to protect and promote the region's most valued natural landscapes and open spaces. The goal is to preserve these assets, thereby maintaining a high quality of life for residents as the region continues to grow and prosper. NWARPC is requesting help and guidance in creating the plan and getting input for the plan from the residents of the two counties. To help facilitate this, public workshops are scheduled for June 8-11. Meetings will be drop-in from 4-6:30 p.m. Meeting locations include the Gentry Public Library, 105 E. Sulphur Springs Reunion

The annual Sulphur Springs school reunion will be held this year on Friday and Saturday, June 5 and 6. Activities will begin with a bean supper at 6 p.m. Friday at the old high school cafeteria. Highfill Food Pantry

Farmers' Market

The Gravette Farmers' Market is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Old Town Park, 110 Park Drive, in Gravette. It features locally-grown produce, flowers, meats and more.

Lions Club

Gravette Lions Club meets at 12 noon on the first and the third Tuesday of every month at the In-Zone Restaurant on Hwy. 59 N. in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Mason Valley Baptist Church Activity Center are held at 7 p.m. the second Friday of each month. The church is located on Arkansas Hwy. 12, between Highfill and Vaughn. Everyone is invited.

Decatur VFW Meetings

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102 and right on Tilly's Hill Road.
