Budget passed in special council meeting

GRAVETTE -- In a special council meeting June 1, the Gravette council passed the revised 2015 budget recommended by Mayor Kurt Maddox at the May meeting.

In other business, council members approved a lot split for Sandy Pike on Holloway Road, voted to waive engineering requirements for road paving in Hiwasse and the Gravette Library remodeling project and voted to move the June council meeting from its usual fourth Thursday date to Monday, June 29.

Councilman Richard Carver requested that any future budget adjustments recommended to the council be accompanied with a detailed summary of the proposed changes and source of funding.

Maddox said the city now has more revenue to spend than previously but also has the largest reserve. He said there had been much praise for recent park improvements in the city.

The city's proposed purchase of land in Hiwasse and the former bus barn property in Gravette have been the topic of much discussion. City officials and school board members said anyone wishing to comment on the purchase or offer proposed uses for the properties should attend the June Committee of the Whole meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 11, at city hall. It is also on the Kiwanis Club agenda for Friday, June 12, at the hospital.
