Lions win two on diamond last week

GRAVETTE -- The Lions are off to a strong start in the 2015 baseball season, picking up wins last week against West Fork and Greenland

The Lions drove in eight runs in the first three innings to secure a 12-0 victory over West Fork during play in Farmington on Thursday.

Jake Ashworth hit a double in the Lions' opening at bat. Jackson Soule' added an RBI single during the first inning to put Gravette on the board.

A single to right by Brady Rolsma, followed by a sacrifice fly by Derek Pruitt, an RBI single by Cody Fields, an RBI single by Luke Summerford, and an RBI single by Mathew Stelting in the second inning helped Gravette build its lead to 7-0.

The Lions went on to score another in the third, and four in the fifth and final inning of play.

Ashworth batted four for four at the plate for the Lions.

West Fork was held scoreless and managed only two hits in the game. Stelting struck out five during his four innings on the plate.

Greenland 0

Avery Burrow struck out nine Greenland batters for Gravette, leading to the 1-0 win over Greenland on Tuesday.

Burrow allowed the Pirates just one hit and no runs during his seven innings on the mound for the Lions.

The Lions scored their only run on an RBI single by Brady Rolsma in the fifth inning.
