OCH plans disaster drill to test hospital's readiness

GRAVETTE -- In order to avoid any confusion or unnecessary concern, Ozarks Community Hospital wants to alert the community of an upcoming training exercise being held Wednesday, April 1, at Ozarks Community Hospital.

Many hospitals, county health departments and emergency managers will be participating in similar exercises throughout Northwest Arkansas on this day. The Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program and the Hospital Preparedness Program require hospitals to have disaster response plans in place and to conduct disaster drills periodically for improvement and training purposes.

"We want to make it as real as possible in order to learn. It is disaster exercises like these that play an important role in the overall development and testing of an emergency plan," explained Steve Oler, disaster preparedness coordinator for OCH.

The Gravette Fire Department and Gravette High School will also be participating in the mock exercise.
