Lady Lions pick up two tournament wins

GRAVETTE -- The Lady Lions defeated the Lady Wolves from Lincoln on Friday and Lady Bobcats from Berryville on Saturday in tournament play at Huntsville to keep their hopes of going to state alive.

On Friday, Lindsee LaBrecque struck out eight and shut out the Lincoln girls in a 6-0 win for Gravette. She threw 47 pitches in seven innings and allowed only two hits in the game. She walked one. She also picked up two hits and an RBI in the game.

Jessica Crawley was two for three with her bat, with one of her hits a triple. She scored once and had two RBIs. Jacklyn Farmer also had two RBIs.

The Lady Lions jumped ahead in the second when Jaki Chalk walked, Megan McAfee singled to center and Farmer batted them in with a hard ground ball hit out into center field.

Gravette added another in the bottom of the fifth when Jaye Chalk, who had been hit by a pitch, made it home on a passed ball.

The final three runs came in the bottom of the sixth for the Lady Lions, to seal the victory.

On Saturday, the Lady Lions jumped ahead, 3-0, in their opening at bat against the Lady Bobcats from Berryville and held on for a 3-2 victory.

Lindsee LaBrecque opened the batting for the Lady Lions with a line-drive triple to right field. Raylee Lemonds, courtesy runner for LaBrecque, scored on a Sierra Lemonds bunt back to the pitcher. A Brittany Crawley bunt brought in Emily Miller, who had walked. Sierra Lemonds came home on a Destiny Laymon bunt to the pitcher.

Though the Lady Bobcats scored two in the top of the second, the Lady Lions were able to hold them there and pick up the needed win.

LaBrecque was the winning pitcher. She threw 46 pitches in seven innings, struck out three and walked three. She allowed one earned run and five hits.
