National Hospital Week is May 10-16

SILOAM SPRINGS -- Most people only visit hospitals occasionally, when a loved one is sick or a friend is having a baby. Associates at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital are different in this regard. Each day, associates come to the hospital to provide compassionate, personalized care for friends, neighbors and those they do not know. Providers work together around the clock, seven days a week, to make healthcare available any time it is needed, whether for one person or more in times of community crisis or natural disaster.

National Hospital Week, established in 1953 and celebrated this year from May 10 through May 16, honors the dedication of all the men and women who deliver and support the care provided in hospitals. The dates overlap those for Nurses Week (May 6 to 12 this year) and were chosen to coincide with Florence Nightingale's birthday in recognition of her efforts to revolutionize the way hospitals were run in the United States. Although much has changed in healthcare since the mid- to late-1800s when Nightingale cared for patients, one thing has remained constant: Hospitals are foundations of their communities, nurturing and caring for individuals from all walks of life.

Siloam Springs Regional Hospital is proud to serve Northwest Arkansas and Northeast Oklahoma with the most-needed, quality clinical services. The hospital celebrated a record-breaking year for newborn births in 2014 with a total of 627 babies born at SSRH. With a variety of services available including orthopedics, general surgery, cardiac care, internal medicine, physical therapy, ophthalmology and more, SSRH touches thousands of lives every year. Through the teamwork and commitment of its associates and medical staff, the quality of this care has been certified by The Joint Commission.

Hospitals are significant contributors to the communities they serve. SSRH's annual ER Kids Fair and Health Expo boasted an attendance of more than 1,000 guests in May 2014 and May 2015. The hospital, in conjunction with the Siloam Springs School District, also helps provide an athletic trainer for students in Siloam Springs. SSRH also supports many non-profit and community activities throughout the year in addition to participating in health fairs and health events in the region.

Hospitals also are major employers in the community. According to the American Hospital Association, hospitals provide more than 5.5 million jobs across the United States.

This Hospital Week, Siloam Springs Regional Hospital is pleased to recognize its associates and other healthcare providers for their ongoing commitment to the community and thank them for tireless dedication to the well-being of our neighbors.

Kevin Clement is the Chief Executive Officer of Siloam Springs Regional Hospital.
