— The Gentry Lady Pioneers (8-6-1) return to the Class 4A state soccer tournament as the No. 2 seed from the 4A-1 Conference, but coach Fabrizio Campagnolla said his team is playing playing well of late.

“I think we are playing our best soccer right now,” Campagnolla said. “Even when we lost to Shiloh Christian, we probably played our best game of the year.”

The tournament site was switched on Tuesday because of flooding at Burns Park. The Lady Pioneers will now face Arkadelphia in a first-round match at noon today in Maumelle.

The same goes for sophomore forward Amber Ellis, who set a state record with 68 goals a year ago, Campagnolla said. She has 27 goals this season, despite missing two matches.

“If it’s anyone else, you see 26, 27 goals and you say she’s having a good season,” Campagnolla said. “And she is having a good season. It’s just after last year people expect more. She’s playing well as far as her decisions shooting and passing.”
