Lady Lions stopped in state tournament, boys in regional

GRAVETTE -- The Lady Lions finished their season in Mena Thursday, falling to Nashville, 9-4. Nashville took the lead early and held Gravette scoreless until the final innings of the game.

With Nashville up 8 to 0 by the time Gravette came up to bat in the bottom of the fifth, Jessica Crawley drove in Gravette's first run when she singled to right.

Then, in the bottom of the sixth, Sierra Lemonds doubled to center, advancing Emily Miller, who had walked, to third. Jacklyn Farmer brought in Miller with a fly-ball single to right. And, when Jaki Chalk grounded out to second, she brought in Lemonds.

Nashville added another run in the top of the seventh, but Gravette answered in the bottom of the inning with a pair of doubles and another run. Jessica Crawley pounded a line drive out into center and was brought home when Jaye Chalk hit another line drive to center for a double.

But that was all the Gravette girls could muster, and their hopes of going on to state finals was ended.
