Maysville E.H. Club News

MAYSVILLE -- Thirteen members attended the April EH Club meeting. Sylvia Tucker was the hostess for the noon meal. The meeting was called to order and welcome extended to all. We sang "With A Smile And A Song" led by Melinda Crawley, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Melinda read a poem entitled "The Fullness of Spring."

Orpha Wardlaw gave the Lesson entitled Gardening on the Rocks. She noted rocks contain minerals so don't get rid of all the rocks in your garden. Many people are gardening these days. Gardening takes a lot of hard work and many hours of labor, but true gardeners don't mind the work; in fact, they find it very enjoyable.

Many things should be considered when planting a garden like when to plant, the cost and location. If you don't have much space, you might consider planting in containers. All kinds of things can be used for container gardening- buckets, tubs, even an old fishing boat! In the cities, they plant gardens on top of the buildings.

Seeds can be very expensive but many seeds can be saved from year to year. Some people have heirloom seeds that have been saved for generations. Hybrid seeds cannot be saved.

Most seed packets have a planting guide on the back of the envelope. It tells you when it is safe to plant in your area and how deep to plant the seeds.

Several eye openers were given, including using a dryer sheet to loosen food stuck to pans, planting dill and basil among tomato plants to keep the worms away.

Roll call was answered by telling your favorite flower. The minutes were read and financial report given. Katherine noted our crowd was down slightly for the spaghetti supper but we still did good. We appreciate all our supporters in maintaining the community building.

Robin Reichardt gave a report on Curtain Call and demonstrated a sewing basket she made. Orpha attended the county board meeting and noted the county bylaws had been updated. Melinda, Robin and Orpha attended the lesson planning meeting.

Upcoming events are County Council May 1, Community Yard Sale May 30, Maysville Day June 6, and County Fun Day June 19.

The meeting was closed with the benediction.
