Annual Lions Golf Classic draws 96 golfers Event benefits numerous programs at Gravette High School

BELLA VISTA -- After several days of rain, the weather cooperated and the skies cleared Saturday morning, May 9, for the thirteenth annual Gravette Lions Golf Classic. Ninety-six golfers participated in this year's Classic, proceeds of which go to support Gravette High School activities, including athletics, drama, vocal and instrumental music, cheerleading and the arts as well as academic achievement awards.

Winners in the event, sponsored by the Gravette High School Booster Club, include the following:

Men's Division

Flight A: 1st place (60), Macray Hilty, Connor Hilty, Quentin Pannell, Jim O'Mara; 2nd place (61), Toby Schaffer, Lance Schaffer, Eric Whitney, Rusty Neighbors; 3rd place (62), Bill Hayford, Doug Moore, Tyler Harper, Brian Kenisorthy.

Flight B: 1st place (66), Paul Hively, Steve Clouten, Kirk Gober, Robert Young; 2nd place (66), Rory Crivello, Jim Wozniak, Tom Wooters, John Ackeret; 3rd place (67), Ron Myers, Roy Baker, Mike Jett, Duane Wilmes.

Flight C: 1st place (70), Fred Albitz, Ted Givens, Don Velo, Bruce Griffin; 2nd place (70), Jon Criger, Don Murphy, Larry Wilmes, Clarence Fletcher; 3rd place (70), Jim Thomas, Wes Spears, Tyler Spychalksi, Kody Stephenson.

Women's Division

1st place (76), Ann Millard, Sharon Drake, Connie Salser, Janie Koonce.

Mixed Division

1st Place (65), Mark Deihl, Julie Deihl, Rachel Deihl, Bryan Johnson; 2nd place (69), Jim Moeller, Gerri Moeller, Earl Lehman, Pat Lehman.

Sue Teague won the prize for closest to the pin in the women's division with a distance of 13'10" and Jason Loyd won in the men's division with 4'4". Ellen Shelly shot the longest drive in the women's division and Chris Green took the honors in the men's division.

John Edwards, of Bella Vista, one of the tournament sponsors, expressed thanks to the many businesses and individuals who helped sponsor the tournament. He also had high praise for the eighth-grade cheerleaders, who performed for the golfers following the tournament and just preceding their meal and then served the meal, and the senior high students who helped with photography for the event and served drinks in two locations on the course.
