GENTRY -- Gentry eighth-grade students received diplomas and other honors Friday morning during ceremonies held in the high school auditorium.

According to the program, 118 eighth graders were promoted from the middle school to the high school during the ceremonies.

After an opening slide show with photos of the eighth-grade students as they matured from childhood to the eighth grade, students marched up to the auditorium stage to Pomp and Circumstance, heard speeches, received awards and then received their diplomas.

Student speakers were Courtney McCollum, Jacob Long, Whitley Cochran and Cha Chi Vang. Garrett Hays opened with prayer and Ayden Smartt led in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Medallions and diplomas were presented by Larry Cozens, GMS principal, and Randy Barrett, superintendent of Gentry Public Schools.

A reception followed the ceremonies in the lobby, hosted by the GMS Booster Club.
