DECATUR -- The air at Decatur Middle School was filled with the smells of food from around the world as students gathered to celebrate Multicultural Night on Friday, Oct. 30.

Each student was allowed to choose a country that represented his or her heritage. Once the students completed research on their projects, they constructed exhibits showing what they had learned.

Several students took the initiative and prepared foods and wore costumes that best represented their country of choice.

Some of the cultures represented included Hmong, Mexican, German, English and Hawaiian. Even cultures from the lower 48 states, such as Texan and New Yorker, were represented.

The event drew around 200 people and included parents and other guests from the Decatur area.
