GENTRY -- Students at Gentry Intermediate School are planning a salute to local veterans on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11.

The school will host the special Veterans Day program to honor all veterans who have served or are presently serving in the U.S. military. The program will begin at 1 p.m. in the student center at the intermediate school campus, 302 W. Second St., Gentry.

Students have been preparing patriotic songs in their music classes to sing on Veterans Day in honor of local veterans. And, the fifth grade literacy teachers have conducted a "thank-you letter" essay writing contest to encourage students to think about the sacrifices veterans and their families make to serve. The top two or three essays will be read by the student authors at the special program.

Veterans have also been invited to speak to the students and event guests about their time in military service.

The school and its students and staff are inviting local veterans to attend.
