GRAVETTE -- Jaye Chalk, a senior at Gravette High School, took the next step in furthering her softball career last week. At noon on Wednesday, in the high school gymnasium, she signed a letter of intent to play college softball at Williams Baptist College, a liberal arts college in Walnut Ridge. She will play third base on the Eagles' team.

Jaye is shortstop for the Gravette Lions softball team but her coach Taos Jones says she has played in all positions on the team. Jaye was all-state shortstop last year for the Lions. She also plays third base in the summer for the Oklahoma Diamond Girls, a traveling softball team out of Tulsa.

Present for the signing Wednesday were: Williams Baptist softball coach Laura Tucker; Jaye's parents, Jay and Jennifer Chalk; Taos Jones, Gravette Lions softball head coach; and Kayla Shortt, Lions assistant softball coach; and Barry Dickinson, head coach of the Oklahoma Diamond Girls.
