Gentry police investigating burglaries, fraud

GENTRY -- Police in Gentry are investigating a series of car burglaries and a felony theft which began with an advertisement on Craigslist.

According to police, several cars were burglarized on Halloween night, most near the haunted house, and a variety of items were taken from unlocked cars, apparently while the victims may have been inside the haunted house. Stolen were a wallet and a computer, as well as other items left in the cars.

Also being investigated is the theft of an iPad from Gentry School District.

A Gentry woman fell victim to a scam which began with a truck offered for sale on Craigslist. After the victim attempted to purchase the vehicle using PayPal cash cards, she realized it was a scam and was able to retrieve $300 of the $1,800-plus dollars she was paying for the truck. The felony theft by fraud occurred on Oct. 26 and 27.

Police caution residents concerning fraud attempts via the Internet and urge them to beware of attempts to gain user names, passwords, account numbers or requests to send money or electronic funds. They also suggest locking vehicles and not leaving items of value within sight inside vehicles.

Anyone with information on any of these crimes is asked to call the Gentry Police Department at 736-8400.

Police arrested Kristy Jennings of Gentry in connection with driving while under the influence of prescription drugs.

According to police, Jennings is alleged to have failed to put her vehicle in park when she exited it, allowing it to roll forward and strike another vehicle. Though property damage was minor, Jennings was allegedly under the influence of her pain medications.
