GENTRY -- Normal traffic on Pioneer Lane, Third Street and Main Street came to a halt for 30 minutes or so on Friday as Gentry High School's marching band and drill team, floats, cheerleaders, football players and members of the homecoming court took to the streets in Gentry's annual homecoming parade.

Led by the police department and the band, the floats, boats and cars traveled north on Pioneer Lane and ended on Main Street in downtown Gentry. Along the way, students cheered on the Pioneers and tossed candy to those who lined the streets to watch the parade.

Homecoming queen candidates and their escorts, along with the kindergarten mascots, rode in fancy convertible cars and waived at spectators. The cheer squads, young and old, encouraged local residents to root for the Pioneers in the Friday night homecoming game against Berryville. And wagon loads of football players joined in those cheers.

Class floats, as well as a class float of alumni too, encouraged the Pioneers to victory over the Bobcats.
