DECATUR -- "What does N stand for?" shouted the guest performer as she continued her performance.

"Never give up," the students responded.

This was the scene at Decatur Northside Elementary School on Sept. 23 when students gathered in the cafeteria to hear the "NED" show.

The NED show (acronym for Never give up, Encourage others, Do your best) is a traveling multi-sensory learning program sponsored by All for Kidz, Inc. It is designed to encourage, inspire and motive students to become champions in all phases of their lives.

Kristie the magician and her cartoon sidekick, Ned, talked to the students at Northside about self motivation and encouraging others to do their very best at whatever challenges may arrive in life.

The program uses humor, storytelling, audience participation through the use of magic tricks and the art of the yo-yo to encourage students to become "Champions at school and in life," according to thenedshow.com.

The Northside students were sitting on the edge of their seats as Kristie opened a large suitcase and pulled out a pencil stub. The pencils grew progressively larger and larger each time she pulled them out of the case until she paused for a second and suddenly pulled out a six-foot long pencil. The lesson from this demonstration was dreams start small but, through perseverance, they grow and grow until they reach the top and are fulfilled.
