Rep. Hendren visits Gravette High School for 'Take Your Legislator to School Month'

GRAVETTE -- As part of "Take Your Legislator to School Month," Rep. Kim Hendren was scheduled to visit Gravette High School to lead discussions and answer questions for the students who are studying the legislative branch of government in class. Activities were designed to show students how the democratic process works and to heighten awareness of citizen rights and responsibilities.

"Take Your Legislator to School Month" was created to build stronger relationships between public education and the Arkansas State Legislature. This gives Rep. Hendren the opportunity to observe what is going on in the schools and provides students the opportunity to interact with an elected official and ask questions. GHS civics teacher Joe Stockton's goal is for the students to take the lead role and do most of the interacting with the representative.

The Oct. 1 lunch was provided by the Gravette High School culinary students. Following lunch was a question and answer time with Rep. Hendren for the civics students in the Performing Arts Center.
