GENTRY -- Though the mortuary itself is now gone, a Halloween spook house is in operation in the old Carpenter Building on Gentry's Main Street, a building which also housed a mortuary, built in 1929.

The business, located at the corner of Main Street and Rust, will be open from 7 to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays through Halloween, Oct. 31.

The haunted house owners are Charlie Bookout and Kevin Stell, and numerous area young people are helping them make a walk through the old building as scary as it can get.

Bookout encourages potential visitors to go online and visit www.mortuarystudios.com for more information on the Carpenter Mortuary Spook House, including rules, restrictions and ticket information. The spook house can also be found on Facebook.

Tickets, $10 each, will be available at the entrance and can also be purchased online. Cash and credit or debit cards will be accepted.

And for those who didn't know, Mortuary Studios in Gentry is home to a group of local artists producing a variety of artwork. For more than 20 years, the old mortuary has been used as a project studio devoted to independent music, film and many other art forms. More information and samples are also available on the Mortuary Studios website.
