Threet honored with 'over the hill' birthday party

GENTRY -- Darla Threet, librarian at the Gentry Public Library, was honored Sept. 6 with a surprise "over the hill" birthday party in celebration of her 60th birthday.

The affair was hosted by Denver and Jackie Whitehead, who cooked for two days to provide the meal for the 50 guests in attendance.

Guests included Darla Threet's brothers and their families, who came from Kansas City, Mo. Some of them stayed at Threet's home but said nothing of the special celebration.

According to those in attendance, Darla was stunned as she was escorted into the decorated McKee Community Room at the library. And friends and family were happy the element of surprise was maintained, especially since planning for the occasion had been ongoing for the past year.

Darla has served at the Gentry Public Library since 1998. She comes from Kansas City, Mo., and is the daughter of Frank and Barbara Bush, now also of Gentry.
