DECATUR -- The Decatur Bulldogs, coming off of a loss to Mountainburg during homecoming on Sept. 18, faced a stinging defeat from the Hackett Hornets Sept. 25 at Bulldog Stadium in Decatur. This was the second conference game of the 2015 season.
Hackett gained additional players this season from Hartford, a school which decided to end its football program and send its players to play for the Hornets.
In a repeat of Mountainburg game, the Hornets opened the game with a kickoff return resulting in the first touchdown of the game.
The Bulldogs dogs were able to move down field with the combined efforts of Meng Vang and Leng Lee. But Decatur was unable to get the ball into the end zone. Hackett, however, had no trouble finding the goal line and made three more touchdowns to lead Decatur, 28-0, by the end of the first quarter.
The Hornets racked up an addition touchdown and conversion in the second quarter to take a 37 to 0 lead into halftime.
The Bulldogs open the second half with a 70-yard kickoff return by Leng Lee. Decatur attempted a two point conversion but was stopped short by the Hornets. Hackett held the lead, 37 to 6, at the end of the third.
One more touchdown in the forth quarter by Hackett made the score 44 to 6. However, a serious injury to a Decatur player ended the game with 44 seconds left on the clock.
The Bulldogs are now 0 and 4 overall and 0 and 2 in conference play. Decatur travels to Coal Hill to play Johnson County Westside at 7 p.m. Oct. 2.
