Lady Pioneers lose two, win third in ninth inning

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers were shut out by Pea Ridge on March 29 and lost to Berryville on Thursday but came back to win their next game in extra innings on Friday.

It wasn't a pretty game for the Gentry girls when they hosted the Lady Blackhawks from Pea Ridge on March 29. Though the Lady Pioneers held the Lady Blackhawks scoreless in the first two innings, the Pea Ridge girls scored two in the third, four in the fourth, two in the fifth and another four in the sixth to soundly defeat Gentry. Gentry had three hits in the game, compared to 16 for Pea Ridge. Gentry also racked up six errors, with none charged to Pea Ridge.

Hollyn Davis, Sara Whatley, Quinley Roses and Stephanie Chase combined for 12 hits and eight runs batted in to give Pea Ridge its huge victory.

Allie VanHouden pitched for the Lady Blackhawks and struck out six. She walked none. Alyssa Kelton pitched for Gentry. She struck out four and walked six.

The final score was Pea Ridge 12, Gentry 0.

Gentry was down, 5-0, before scoring two runs in the sixth on a Brooke Boston single and an error, but Berryville matched those runs in the bottom of the inning and shut down the Lady Pioneers in their final at-bat on Thursday.

The Lady Pioneers had two runs on four hits in the game. The Lady Bobcats picked up seven runs on eight hits.

With things tied up at six runs each at the end of seven, both Clarksville and Gentry put three runs across the plate in the eighth on Friday. The Lady Pioneers held their opponents scoreless in the top of the ninth, and then Brooke Boston hit a line-drive single to center and drove in Lynzey Sikes for the winning run.

Boston batted six for six in the game, singling in the first, third, fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth innings. Harley Stanfield hit a solo home run for Gentry. Lynzey Sikes hit a triple in the game. Sabra Philpott had three RBIs.
