Maysville EH Club

Members of the Maysville Extension Homemakers Club met March 24, at the Maysville Community Building for their regular meeting. Jewel Crawley was hostess for the noon meal. After the meeting was called to order and the welcome given, we sang and wished Sylvia Tucker a Happy Birthday.

Nikki Crawley was the leaderfor the lesson on Feasting on Wild Mushrooms and Greens and Edible Parts of a Tree. Greens are edible leaves of certain plants and have been cultivated for thousands of years. They should be used within one to two days after purchasing for best nutritional value but can be stored unwashed in an airtight container in the refrigerator for three to four days. Edible greens are rich sources of vitamins and minerals. Everyone told their favorite way to cook various greens and mushrooms.

Several eye openers were given, including one by Laura Kenney about an easy way to clean up an egg when dropped on the floor. Use a plastic spatula and scrape it onto a dust pan. Gwen Singleton gave an inspiration entitled "Friends Who Walk Beside," and Orpha Wardlaw read a short article from Taste of Home magazine on "Out of Mouths of Children."

Jewel Crawley showed a colorful candle ring made from newspapers, which were cut into leaf shapes, edges were painted then coated with lacquer. Leaves were then glued to wire and twisted to form the candle ring.

Carol Loux showed a picture she had made by framing a unique bar soap wrapper. Robin Reichardt showed a tote she was crocheting.

Everyone answered the roll by telling their favorite greens. Minutes were read and financial report given by Gwen Singleton. Orpha reminded us of the upcoming workshops and County Council meeting which will be April 15. We made plans for the Taco Dinner Spring Fund Raiser which will be April 23. Members are to meet at the community building at 9 o'clock, April 20, to clean the building. We set a date of June 3-4 for our annual community yard sale. Booths are available to rent for $10 for those with items to sell. Booths are inside so rain is no problem. Dianna Afuvai gave an update on the Spring Luncheon. The meeting was closed with the benediction
