Farmers' market opens Saturday

GRAVETTE -- The popular farmers' market in Gravette opens for its ninth season this Saturday, April 16, in beautiful Old Town Park. This announcement was made last week by Bob and Beth Patton, vendors at the market. Beth and Evelyn McGraw, another long-time vendor, are co-chairmen of the market this summer. Paul Mahon, from Hiwasse, will also be participating again this year.

Operating hours for the market will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday. The market will be open until November or until the first freeze. Offerings will include locally-grown fruits and vegetables, beef and pork, eggs, a variety of plants, baked goods, jams and jellies. Local crafts will also be featured, including handcrafted pens by Williams Woodcrafts.

Market vendors set up booths in the covered pavilion at the park. They will accept WIC vouchers and senior market produce coupons issued by the Area Agency on Aging.

The Old Town String Band performs at the farmers' market most Saturdays, and members of the group say they operate an open mike session. Anyone who plays an instrument or sings is welcome to come out, bring music and instruments and join in.

Those having questions regarding the market may call Patton at 479-787-3313.
