Decatur loses two on the road, one at home

DECATUR -- The Decatur Bulldogs faced three top teams in the 2A conference last week on the diamond.

The Bulldogs made their last appearance at home April 13 against the Magazine Leftwich Rattlers. Jay Porter was at the plate for the Bulldogs. Hector Agguire was catching. The Rattlers jumped ahead of the Bulldogs in the top of the first inning by four runs. By the top of the fifth, Magazine extended its lead to 17. In the top of the fourth, Decatur coach Jason Porter pulled relief pitcher Troy Flood from third base to replace Porter. Jay Porter moved to third. In the bottom of the fifth and final inning, Ryan Shaffer crossed home plate on a base hit by David Lopez. The game went five innings, with the Rattlers taking the victory, 17 to 1.

The Bulldogs traveled to Springdale April 12 to take on the freshman of Shiloh Christian in the last non-conference game of the season. The Saints defeated the Bulldogs, 16 to 0.

At Hackett, the Bulldogs managed two hits in the game but fell short as the Hornets continued their winning streak, stinging Decatur, 17 to 2.

Decatur is in fifth place in the 2A 4West conference race behind Mountainburg going into the final week of the 2016 season.

The Bulldogs travel south to Mountainburg to take on the Dragons April 18, and to Hartford April 21 to take on the Hustlers.
