DECATUR -- The Decatur fast-pitch softball team came home for the final game of the 2016 regular season.

Due to heavy rain that flooded the softball field, the Hartford Hustlers moved the game to the softball field at Edmiston Park April 21.

Cameron Shaffer was on the plate for Decatur with Celine Perez catching. The game started with promise as the Bulldogs managed two base hits that resulted in Desi Meek crossing home plate for the first run in the bottom of the first inning. Shaffer managed to hold the Hustlers scoreless in the top of the second. The Bulldogs scored once in the bottom of the inning to take a 2 to 0 lead going into the top of the third.

A series of fielding errors allowed Hartford to take the lead, 5 to 2. Hartford scored five more times to Decatur's two additional runs to end the Bulldogs' regular season with a 10 to 4 loss.

The Bulldogs traveled to Mountainburg to take on the Dragons in another conference game and were shut out, 14 to 0.

The Decatur Bulldogs finished the season 1 and 5 in conference and 1 and 5 overall.

The Bulldog softball team will travel south to Hackett on April 27 to participate in the 2A 4 West District Softball Tournament. Go to decatursd.com/athletic to check on start times and location.
