Gentry girls beat Huntsville in penalty kicks

GENTRY -- The Gentry Lady Pioneer soccer team played against Huntsville in its fourth conference game of the season. The rainy weather held off for the duration of the girls' game.

Within the first 15 minutes, the Lady Eagles were able to sneak a shot into the back of the net. Although the intensity of the game immediately increased, the Lady Pioneers were unable to tie the game up until the second half.

Gentry junior, Amber Ellis, who recently returned from a knee injury, made an assist to senior Ana Linch for the goal.

Because time ran out in the game and the score was tied at a goal apiece, the two teams were forced to pick five players each to shoot penalty kicks. Haley Borgeteien-James, a senior, and Ellis kicked in two goals for Gentry. Thanks to several phenomenal saves by sophomore goalkeeper, Chastery Fuamatu, the Lady Pioneers held Huntsville to a single penalty-kick goal and won the game.

"That was our first game of the season to go into penalty kicks," Ellis said. "So, I'm pretty excited about the results. It was a fun first game back, but I can't wait to see where the rest of this season takes us!"

The girls played the Danville Little Johns on Friday.
