OCH celebrating therapy month

— Ozarks Community Hospital of Gravette is celebrating Occupational Therapy Month throughout the month of April.

Occupational therapy is a science-driven, evidence-based profession that provides practical support to help people recover and overcome barriers that prevent them from performing everyday activities. This allows people of all ages to live life to its fullest by helping maximize performance, function and participate in meaningful activities such as occupations.

“Being an occupational therapist means that I am not only able to see different diagnoses and different populations but am able to provide a service that benefits these patients in the best way possible,” explained Darin Bell, occupational therapist. “I chose this profession because it allows me to treat all age groups from pediatrics to geriatrics in both outpatient and inpatient settings.”

When working with an OCH occupational therapist, strategies and modifications are customized for each individual. The goal is to improve function and support everyday living activities while maximizing potential. Through this approach, occupational therapy helps individuals develop needed skills, adjust their environments and build health promoting habits and routines that will allow them to thrive.

The OCH of Gravette therapy department includes two certified occupational therapists, a certified occupational therapy assistant, two physical therapists, two additional physical therapy assistants and two certified speech pathologists. Together, the team offers individualized, high-quality care, including evaluations, exercise therapy, manual therapy and therapeutic modalities to both inpatients and outpatients.
