Public invited to informational meeting on new school plans

Patrons of the Gentry School District asked for input on construction proposals and millage increase

— A community meeting to discuss building plans for a new Gentry Intermediate School will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 9, in the community room of the Pioneer Activities Complex on the Gentry High School campus. The public is urged to attend.

To be presented at the special meeting is the reasoning for a request to the voters for a 3.1 mil increase to pay for the construction of a new intermediate school classroom building, a new roof system on the multi-purpose building at the intermediate school campus, the construction of a career-readiness building on the high school campus which will include a diesel mechanic lab and classrooms for other career training, as well as updates to the electrical system at the high school, systems renovation at the new agriculture building and lighting and sound improvements to the high school auditorium.

The need for the new buildings and the renovations will be explained at the special meeting, as will the requested millage increase to fund bonds needed for the construction and improvements.

Voters living within the Gentry School District will be given opportunity to vote for or against the school improvement plans at the Sept. 20 School Board Election, at which the millage question will be on the ballot.

Randy Barrett, superintendent of Gentry Public Schools, published a video explaining the proposed improvements and the need for a millage increase which can be viewed at the link below:
