Council approves Wayfinding signs at special session

HIGHFILL -- Following a lengthy discussion, the Highfill City Council, at a special meeting on Aug. 16, approved participating in the Wayfinding sign program and pledging to maintain signs placed in the city directing the way to Highfill's city park and city hall, as well as directing travelors between the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport and downtown Siloam Springs.

The action came after the council was assured that a sign which had been planned for placement next to the community building on the corner of Arkansas Highway 264 would be placed further east and, hopefully, out of harm's way.

Stacey Sturner from the Northwest Arkansas Council attended the meeting as well and answered council questions.

The council had voted against participating in the program at its regular meeting on Aug. 9 because it did not wish to make the city responsible for repairs or replacement of two $6,400 signs if one of them would be placed on the corner by the community building where car and truck traffic going around the 90-degree turn made sign damage likely.

The city's participation and responsibility for two signs was also connected to the airport's participation in the program and responsibility to maintain two more signs near the airport entrance.
