County historical society to meet in Gravette

The Benton County Historical Society will meet at the Gravette Historical Museum, 503 Charlotte Street, S.E., in Gravette, on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. Guest speaker will be Steve Mitchael, who helped to establish the Gravette Historical Museum in 1995 and was active in the preservation and renovation of the Kindley House as the museum's current home. He is now chairman of the Gravette Historical Museum Commission and continues to be active in the day-to-day operations of the museum. Refreshments will be served. Santa Photos Available

Photos taken with Santa Claus at the Gravette historical museum open house on Saturday night are now available for pickup. Persons who had photos taken may pick them up at Gravette City Hall, 604 First Avenue, S.E. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Local art show underway at Gentry Public Library

A number of local artists are displaying their works of art at the Gentry Public Library, on Main Street at Collins in Gentry, through Dec. 16. An open house, part of the Second Annual Christmas Art Festival there, is scheduled for 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10. Area residents are encouraged to stop by the library to view the artwork on display there, as well as to make use of the library offerings. Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 9 a.m. until 12 noon on Saturdays.

Library plans open house on Saturday

An open house will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Gentry Public Library, at Main Street and Collins Avenue in Gentry. Library tours will be offered and Burt Crume, area pianist, will be providing musical entertainment for the season on the piano. Artwork will be on display in the library, including photographs by Terry Stanfill and paintings by area artists Lydia Seiden, Barbara Bush and Martha Reimer. A holiday backdrop painted by Cecil Savage will be available for family photos. The library will remain open until the parade, which begins at 6 p.m.

Holiday Express Visit

Family fun for all is planned during the visit of the KCS Holiday Express Train in Gravette. The train will stop in Centennial Park, at the intersection of Highways 59 and 72, at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13. Children will be able to board the train, tour several cars and get a picture with Santa. Refreshments will be served and food trucks will be on site. Christmas carolers will entertain the crowd and visitors may enjoy after-hours shopping on Main Street. Main Street festivities will begin at 6 p.m.

Help Available for Area Vets

Mike Carnahan, adjutant of the John E. Tracy American Legion post at Gravette, asks that military veterans in the area contact him if they are needing help. Vets may call Carnahan at 479-787-8509, if they or members of their families are needing assistance with health concerns, financial difficulties or other concerns. Carnahan said the local post would offer direct assistance or help the person get in contact with agencies in the area which could help meet their needs.

Lions Club meetings held in Gravette and Gentry

Gravette Lions Club meets at noon on the first Tuesday and the third Tuesday of every month at the In-Zone Restaurant on Arkansas 59 North in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library (Gentry's meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 19, this month due to the Christmas holiday). New members are welcome and invited.

Tired Iron Club meets third Tuesday of month

Tired Iron of the Ozarks antique engine and tractor club meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the club's showgrounds, located at 13344 Taylor Orchard Road in Gentry. For more information, visit the club's website at www.tiredironoftheozarks.org.

Gravette Kiwanis Club plans breakfast meetings

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing services planned

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW meetings first Tuesday of month

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome.
