— Loren and Doris (Davis) Davis celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on December 12th. They were pen pals and exchanged letters for a few years before they met in March of 1941. They fell in love and were married December 12, that same year, in Sayer, Okla. Though they had planned to marry a little later, the Pearl Harbor attack on Dec. 7 moved things up.

Doris was the oldest child of Edgar and Lucy Davis of Yale, Okla. She was a 1939 graduate of Yale High School. Loren was the youngest child of William and Vida Davis of Gentry and graduated from Gentry High School in 1935.

After Doris and Loren were married, they lived in Tulsa, Okla., where Loren was in school.

"I knew it would just be a matter of time and I would be off serving my country," Loren said.

As it turns out, Loren didn't get sent overseas during the war; he served at home, in McAllen, Texas, as a part of a unit which trained pilots for the war. He served in the Army Air Corps from spring of 1942 until the end of the war.

After the war, they purchased a farm outside of Yale, Okla., where they raised their children, John, Karen, Mark, Tim and Anne. They were active in their community and their church.

In 1979 Loren and Doris moved to Gentry and built a home on the original farm where Loren grew up. And, over two years ago, they moved from the country home into town.

In addition to five adult children, they have 10 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Their son Mark and his wife Arlene live close by.

Loren and Doris, now 98 and 95, enjoy each day together. Their days include reading their Bibles and playing a favorite game, dominoes. They also enjoy time with their children, extended family and friends. On Sunday mornings, you can find them with their church family at First Christian in Gentry. They are a joy and inspiration to their family and all who know them.

According to Loren, there's never been a cross word between him and his wife -- at least nothing that comes to memory. And Doris says of Loren, "He's a wonderful husband."
